SONGWIELDER: The Music Apocalypse TTRPG
For my graduate thesis project spanning one year, I wrote, designed, and illustrated a guidebook for a tabletop role-playing game (TRPG) — a type of game you’re likely most familiar with through Dungeons & Dragons.
The actual game aspect is fully functional, paying homage to a few other well-known TRPGs in the independent space while innovating my own “Music as Magic” system. This is a product of extensive research into TRPG mechanics and visuals. Illustration is deeply integrated into the design of the majority of the book, first being executed in a combination of pastels, color pencils, acrylic, and cut paper before receiving varying levels of digital treatment. The final product was printed saddle-stitch, 48 pages cover to cover.
An exhibition was also held at the Intersect Arts Gallery in St. Louis for one month, where the artwork of the project was presented accompanied by lights and music. This is featured by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts illustration social HERE!
